SMP were employed by Burnham Parish council to design the services to their new community centre.
The building comprised simultaneous heating and cooling systems utilising ground source heat pumps, using a large array of bore holes. At the time of the design this ground source system was one of the largest systems in the UK of its type. SMP managed to secure grant funding for part of the heating aspects of this system.
The building included considerable mechanical ventilation systems to maintain internal conditions during functions due to imposed Planning Conditions on noise, and restrictions on openable windows during summer functions. The building also benefited from enhanced natural daylight; the window and roof light areas were carefully balanced against solar gains during the design stages.
