Visitor Centre – Winner of UK Civic Trust Award
Working in association with Ashe Construction for the Crown Estate Commissioners, this award winning project involved the provision of services to a new visitor pavilion overlooking Virginia Water Lake, which was constructed using the Estate’s own sustainably-grown timber and designed to fit in with the historic surroundings.
The new building offers a meeting place, refreshments and toilet facilities to those visiting Windsor Great Park, and works included mechanical and electrical services to kitchen/servery, staff room, new WCs, multi-purpose space and associated external works.
The cafe space was designed to be entirely naturally ventilated while toilet areas take advantage of heat recovery through the mechanical ventilation system, reducing the building’s energy requirements.
